GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Investigators in Gulfport are looking into a fatal house fire. According to Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove, an 82-year-old woman who was inside at the time was killed.

Officials say the blaze broke out early Wednesday morning on 41st avenue. We are told the woman was the owner of the house and lived there alone. Officials are not releasing the cause of death or her identity at this time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but officials told WLOX News they believe it was caused by an electrical short. Gulfport fire investigators will be on the scene until sunrise assisting state fire marshals with the investigation.

Gulfport Fire Inspector Tim Regan said this is the first fire fatality for the city since 2011.
