D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

The night before New Year's Eve, at Reno's sports pub in D'Iberville, a man and woman were shot while sitting in their car after a man robbed them.

"It's hard to believe that somebody would shoot somebody else like that. I couldn't believe it, but when you're faced with it, it's there,” said owner Ed Miller.

According to D'Iberville police, both victims were treated for non-life threatening injuries. Ed Miller has owned the sports bar for the past 18 years. He said incidents like that just don't happen there. But he's thankful police have been diligent in following up on the crime.

“Police department here is probably one of the best that I know of. I'm from Chicago, so I know from up there and they're really nice guys, really nice officers,” said Miller.

Reno's is located just feet away from the new Scarlet Pearl Casino, but Miller doesn't believe the increased traffic the casino is bringing has any relation to the shooting.

“I don't think it has anything. It's a great casino. I been waiting five years for it to come here. It's possible I guess that they could draw the wrong crowd in here, but I don't think so,” said Miller.

D'Iberville Police Captain Marty Griffin said they're still in the investigation stage of the crime, and they hope to be able to release some sort of information in the near future.

“At this point we are reviewing surveillance footage. We're working with other city's law enforcement agencies to determine if this is something similar to other cities that have happened,” said Griffin.

D'Iberville police are also investigating two car burglaries at Cypress Lanes. The cars were broken into in front of the bowling alley on January 2. Police said a purse and gun were stolen from the vehicle among other things. They are still looking for those responsible, and they said the auto burglaries are not connected to the armed robbery and shooting at Reno's Sports Pub.
