Flood victims in Scott Co., MO begin cleanup

SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

As the Mississippi River begins to recede, folks in Scott County, Missouri are facing the mess it left behind.

Debris, trash and mud now cover some neighborhood roads in Scott County.

One area business came within just a few feet of having major water damage.

Video of his business was taken from the air. It showed water coming within just a few from ruining his porch.

“You can see how high on the rocks out here," Riverhouse owner Derek Wilson said. "It got within two feet of the projected high, so we were worried."

“We had parking in the back where we could bring people down and we were happy with that and then the latest projections came up and it went over the roads so we had to back up then,” he said.

On Saturday, President Barack Obama signed an emergency declaration for Missouri and ordered federal aid for the region, which will allow the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Department of Homeland Security to coordinate relief efforts.

For this region, water is expected to be below flood stages within five days.
