Gautier police are looking into a late-night shooting that injured two people Sunday. Department spokesman Matt Hoggatt said the shooting happened in the parking lot of the Antebellum Manor apartment complex around 11 p.m.

Hoggatt said officers responded to the shots fired call at the complex on Gautier Vancleave Road and found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to Singing River Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Hoggatt said they were treated and later released.

Antebellum Manor resident Damarcus Hughes said he and a friend were in his apartment and were frightened by the sound of gun shots.

"I heard crazy, crazy gunshots. It was like pow, pow, pow, right behind one another. My friend thought it was fireworks, but I was like no, no. I think it's gunshots," Hughes said.

Hughes then went outside and began filming the scene on his smart phone.

"I came outside, and there were police cars everywhere, lights were everywhere. There was ambulances, and there was a guy directing traffic," Hughes said. "The guys were shot and they were making these moaning noises, but the police officer kept telling them calm down, you just have a flesh wound."

At this point, Hughes and other residents say they just want answers.

"Nothing ever happens here. I was in shock. I just wanted to see what was going on," Hughes said. "People are just scared. People are nervous. We want answers, because we live out here."

Police are reaching out to the public to gather more information about the shooting. If you have any information that could help the investigation, please call the Gautier Police Department at 228-497-2486 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-787-5898.
