SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Frost and a light freeze are expected along and north of the Interstate 10 and Interstate 12 corridor late Monday night, according to the National Weather Service.

"Low temperatures late Monday night and early Tuesday morning are forecast...[to cool to] the lower 30s along the corridor from Baton Rouge to Slidell to the Mississippi Gulf Coast," read a Special Weather Statement issued by the NWS office in Slidell on Monday.

Areas affected include: Picayune, Bay St. Louis, Waveland, Diamondhead, Gulfport, Biloxi, Pascagoula, Ocean Springs, Moss Point, Gautier, & St. Martin

Areas in Stone & George counties will also see temps in the upper 20s and lower 30s. But, no Special Weather Statement was issued for them because those areas have already had several extended bouts of near or below freezing temperatures this winter season.

"We haven't seen a cold snap like this since December," reminded WLOX Meteorologist Wesley Williams. "So, be sure to protect your pets and plants. Also, with wind chills in the 20s, animals and sensitive vegetation that are left outside, unprotected, could be harmed or damaged by the harsh conditions."
