SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Starting at 12:01 a.m. January 1, 2016 the Department of Marine Resources says all waters north of the intracoastal waterway in Mississippi territorial waters will be closed to shrimping. However, DMR confirms all other Mississippi territorial waters will remain open to shrimping. Keep in mind shrimping regulations remain in effect.

You must be legally licensed if your vessel is engaged in catching or transportating shrimp in or from waters in MS.

Also, commercial fishing for Red Drum reopens at 12:01 a.m. Jan. 1, 2016.

According to DMR, the annual total allowable catch for commercial landings of Red Drum shall be 60,000 pounds from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31. The commercial total allowable catch for the fishing season will be broken up into three four-month periods: Jan. 1-April 30, 20,000 pounds; May 1-Aug. 31, 20,000 pounds; Sept. 1-Dec. 31, 20,000 pounds. If the commercial total allowable catch is not met or is exceeded in any time period, the pounds shall be added to or subtracted from the next time period.
