BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Biloxi firefighters are rallying to help a small, volunteer fire department that's in desperate need. Three Forks volunteer fire department in North Mississippi lost everything in last week's tornado. The Biloxi Fire Department is donating a pumper truck and calling on others to help out.

"The only other thing we have to mount in here is the straps for the oxygen tanks. We're going to put one on each side," a city mechanic told Deputy Chief John Jennings, as he checked out the donated pumper.

City of Biloxi maintenance employees are making sure the pumper truck is ready for service. The 1990 surplus vehicle has been in storage, but it will certainly be put to good use by the Three Forks Volunteer Department in North Mississippi.

"This particular small, volunteer fire department got hit and all that's left is a slab," said Jennings.

"Their fleet used to be two pumpers, a rescue truck and a tanker truck. And they lost all four of those units. So, I mentioned this to Chief Boney and he said we happened to have this truck. And I can't think of a better place to send it," said Deputy Chief Jennings.

Firefighters are a brotherhood. They help one another in times of need. Who could forget the dozens of departments that came to Biloxi's aid in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. And since then, Biloxi has had numerous opportunities to pay it forward.

Biloxi firefighters send equipment and men to the northeast in the wake of Super Storm Sandy. Last year, they answered the call for help in tornado-ravaged Louisville, Mississippi.

And now, they are once again in disaster response mode, reaching out to the small volunteer department of Three Forks.

"After Katrina, we were all in the same boat of needing help and help certainly came. So, we're hoping to pay it forward. Gulfport said they can deliver some hose. Somebody else said I've got a little bit of turnout gear, I have this tool or that. So, hopefully by Wednesday, we'll have a complete truck we can send up to them," said Jennings.

The pumper truck will be outfitted with the donated equipment Tuesday morning at the central fire station in Biloxi. Firefighters plan to drive to the donated truck to North Mississippi on Wednesday.
