SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Last week was quite a week across the Southeast United States, as severe storms and tornadoes moved through multiple areas

This weekend we have seen much of the same in areas to our west. Luckily South Mississippi has not had any severe storms, just issues with flooding.

We aren't out of the woods yet, though. For Monday morning we have the potential for strong to severe storms across South Mississippi.

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla. has placed parts of South Mississippi under a slight risk for severe weather Monday morning.

The timing of the storms will be between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. as they move from west to east.

The main threats with these storms look to be flash flooding, due to how saturated the ground is from how much rain we've already had, and damaging winds within some of the stronger storms.

A few tornadoes may also be possible, but the risk is extremely low.

All of these storms are associated with a cold front that will bring cooler, drier air by the time we get to the end of the day on Monday.

WLOX Editorials: Tell your state legislators to, 'do the right thing'

The Mississippi State Legislature is back in session and as usual a fight is brewing over money. Still unresolved is what to do with  $750 million coming from BP over 17 years because of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil disaster. To the people here on the coast, there is no question that all of the money should be spent on projects in South Mississippi. But so far, the powers in Jackson and the rest of the state won't agree to that.
