GEORGE COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Warren Strain, spokesman for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, has identified the man who was killed in a George County officer-involved shooting Saturday night.

Strain said 36-year-old Michael Parker, of Lucedale, was killed after leading George County Sheriff’s deputies and Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers on a high-speed chase.

It all started when George County deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle near the intersection of Old Highway 63 and Highway 63 just before midnight.

Parker reportedly refused to stop and led authorities on a chase that ended on Highway 26 near Henry Cochran Road, just west of Lucedale.

Strain said officers were forced to fire shots, and Parker was killed. Mississippi Bureau of Investigation agents and the Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene following the incident.

A second suspect was transported to the hospital.

District Attorney Tony Lawrence issued the following statement to WLOX:

"MBI was called out to investigate the incident and a member of office was present. As customary, once the investigation is completed, this case will be presented to a George County Grand Jury."

Parker’s body has been taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Pearl for an autopsy.
