Coach Lorenzo Wright has D'Iberville basketball bouncing in the right direction

D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

The Warriors have the talent and excellent coaching to make an impact in the Region 7-6A ranks.

D"Iberville hired Lorenzo Wright three years ago. Since that time...his Warriors are playing an uptempo offensive attack and aggressive defense.

Wright said, 'I think we are heading in the right direction and it all goes back to those guys.  They bought into the system.  We worked hard the first two years.  The third year is paying off for us."

Wright played his high school basketball under legendary head coach Bert Jenkins at Gulfport High.  He says using  a special basketball grading system that was developed by Coach Jenkins has helped motivate his Warriors.

"You see guys making hustle plays, "stated Wright. "Diving on the floor for loose balls.  Those things are all part of that grading system coach Jenkins left for us at Gulfport."

5-10 senior Zach Scales defines the word hustle.  This young man has excellent balls skills.  He can explode to the hoop and some how find the net or he can pull up and drill the long range bucket.
He's netting 19 points, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

Scales said, "I think the motivation from my teammates makes me a good basketball player.  Come in each and everyday.  Work hard and stay on me and tell me to keep pushing."

6-foot-8 senior center Evan Howard is rock solid inside the paint, bagging 8 points and 8 rebounds an outing.  Howard recently signed a scholarship with Xavier University of New Orleans.

"I chose Xavier because I like the basketball program, "stated Howard.  "I like what coach Jackson had to offer and I wanted to major in pharmacy and I wanted to go somewhere that offered that."

Xavier University head basketball coach Dannton Jackson was in attendance Tuesday and he's looking forward to having Howard play for his Gold Rush.

Jackson said, "My first time evaluating him, he has unbelievable hands, able to run the floor and he's tough around the basket.  He can score.  So we feel like in his freshman year, he'll be an impact for our basketball program."

Junior guard Kyle Winters gives D'Iberville a little more offensive punch along with Shamond Hoye, and Nick Jenkins.
