PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

Heavy rain is creating a mess for South Mississippi. The Biloxi River is nearly two feet above flood stage, and the waters continue to rise.

Emergency officials expected the Biloxi River to crest Thursday morning, but its 11 a.m. reading had the river at 13.6 feet. Flood stage is at 12 feet.

At least six inches of rain has fallen in Pascagoula. Consequently, puddles cover roads across the city, and much of Jackson County.

If you live in Pascagoula, try and avoid low-lying areas. Pascagoula police say flooding is a problem at Market Street and Highway 90, Chicot Street and 14th Street, Magnolia Street and Orange Avenue, as well as Pascagoula Street and Live Oak.
