PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

The Singing River Board of Trustees voted to approve a $13 million contribution agreement with Jackson County. While that agreement includes trustee resignations, officials say there are other steps in the process that must take place before any trustees would be stepping down.

Officials say the trustees also approved a court settlement agreement regarding pension lawsuits. Those suits include a federal class action lawsuit and several state lawsuits. However, because of a confidentiality order SRHS cannot reveal the contents of the settlement agreement. Other parties must also sign off agreements.

The contribution agreement with Jackson County is that the county will give SRHS $13 million for indigent care and bond payments. In return, SRHS agrees to allow a turnaround firm scrutinize and restructure to make it more financially sound.

The deal also calls for the resignations of some trustees. SRHS officials stress while trustees agreed to the terms of the contribution agreement the implementation will only move forward if and when the pension settlement agreement is resolved.
