WLOX Editorial: Proposed aquarium promises to be a South Mississippi jewel
The plan to build an aquarium as a major tourist attraction in downtown Gulfport is getting closer to reality. It appears a $41 million initial investment is secure with $24 million from the state legislature and another $17 million earmarked in BP Restore act money.
An aquarium designed to give patrons a sense of being underwater with fish and other marine life could be a real jewel for the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
As we wait to see the design for the construction on the 12 acres in downtown Gulfport, we hope this plan indeed becomes a reality that we can all be proud of within a few short years.
