St. Martin ready to make a run at the Class 6A State Basketball Title

Last week the Yellow Jackets posted 2 wins and 1 loss at the Disney World Tournament in Orlando, improving to 13 and 1 on the season.

Could this be the year, St. Martin makes a run at the Class 6A State Championship?

Head coach Charlie Pavlus  believes his team can accomplish that goal this season.  He has seven top-notch players who can match up with any team in the state.

Stacee St. Julisn ia a 6-1 senior highlights the Jackets offensive attack, netting 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game. 6-5 senior Jalen Lett is netting 11.7 points, and 6.6 rebounds an outing.  6-foot junior Daetran Bivens has an eye for the basket, drilling 40 percent of  3-point range. His 10.1 points per game ranks third on the team. 6-3 senior Jonte Moultrie and 6-foot-5 Johnnelius Anderson average 8 points and 6 rebounds.

Coach Pavlus says this group has the talent and desire to make a run at the Class 6A title.

Pavlus said, "But it all comes down to players making plays.  If we need one guy to get us one bucket, I believe we've got him.  I believe if he misses it, we've got three guys who will be able to get that rebound and put it back in.  So, everybody being unselfish, everybody being a part of the team, wanting everybody to do well.  That's the key to success.

"This year I feel is going to be our year because we start five seniors, guys I've been playing with and most trust, "stated Stacee St. Julian.  "It's like a family.  It's more of a family this year than anything."

Lett says the Yellow Jackets success begins with coach Pavlus.

"It's starts with our coach.  He's always pushing us in practice and always pushing us to get better."

St. Martin jumps back onto the basketball court December 28 facing Pascagoula in the Gulfport Admirals Hardwood Holiday Classic at Bert Jenkins Gymnasium.
