Police: Hitchhiker stabbed driver in neck with a syringe

D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

D'Iberville Police are searching for a hitchhiker who they say stabbed the man who gave him a ride Monday morning.

It happened shortly after 7am when a coast man picked up a hitchhiker on Highway 67, north of The Promenade shopping center. Clay Jones with D'Iberville PD said when the driver got to Popp's Ferry Road, the hitchhiker asked to get out. As he was getting out of the car, the man stabbed the driver in the neck with a syringe, then ran away heading west on Popp's Ferry Road.

The suspect is described as a black man with a medium build in his 20s to 30s. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket, yellow shirt, black gloves, dark pants, boots, and a sock cap.

The driver is at the hospital undergoing tests. There's no word on whether there was anything in the syringe, or whether it was contaminated.

If you have any information that could help police find this suspect, call D'Iberville Police at (228) 396-4252 or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at (877) 787-5898.
