BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Some people believe Christmas isn't something that can be bought and that's why on Saturday, members of the Gulf Coast Family Church of Nazarene gave away items in an open garage sale.

Thanks to donations from church members and other community members, toys, housewares, clothing and shoes were given to those in need.

The church's senior pastor says Christmas is about Jesus, and Jesus is all about love, so the event is a way to show their love to others during the holiday season.

"I know it's hard times, so it's cool to see other people be able to get some things for their kids and for their families," Sr. Pastor Lamar Courtney. "It's cool to see kids get gifts for their parents as well, and have those wrapped up and be able to imagine them open them up on Christmas day."

Pastor Courtney says this is the first time the church has done a Christmas event like this, and they plan to start doing it every year.
