HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

The Federal Office of Head Start has appointed Community Development Institute to act as an interim operator for the next six months since the Gulf Coast Community Action Agency was stripped of its power to run the Harrison County program.

The CDI plans to reopen all eight of the Harrison County Head Starts on schedule on Jan. 5.

CDI says their goal is to get Head Start operating again with as little disruption as possible to students and their families.

While they hope to keep centers open and children in the same classrooms, it will take a lot of work. The company has to hire staff, transfer students' files, and get a license from the state to operate.

The CDI was appointed by Administration for Children and Families, a division of Department of Health and Human Services responsible for the economic and social well-being of families, children, individuals, and communities.

According to their website, CDI has provided interim services to over 200 Head Start programs since 2000, using a high performance, strengths-based management philosophy.
