HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove has confirmed that a Saucier woman was killed Thursday in a car accident involving a police chase.

According to Harrison County Sheriff Melvin Brisolara, deputies attempted to stop a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer at Canal and Landon roads in Gulfport for reckless driving. The vehicle, driven by 37-year-old Shantel Seay, did not stop.

Seay reportedly sped off west on Landon and continued onto Wolf River Road, losing control near Jason Drive. Authorities say the vehicle then ran off the road, flipping several times.

Both Seay and a male passenger, who has not been identified at this time, were ejected from the vehicle. Seay, who was pronounced dead on the scene, died from blunt force trauma.

The passenger was transported to Garden Park Hospital and underwent surgery.

The accident remains under investigation.
