BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

The carcass of a juvenile dolphin was found on the beach in Biloxi near Shaggy’s restaurant Wednesday morning.

Dr. Moby Solangi, Director of The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Gulfport, said scientists are on the scene now inspecting the carcass. He said the dead dolphin will be taken back to IMMS for a necropsy.

Earlier this week, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced the closure of all Coast oyster reefs and beaches because of potentially dangerous algae blooms. It is not yet known if the algae blooms contributed to the death of the dolphin.

We will let you know when scientists learn more about what killed the dolphin. Check back with WLOX News and WLOX.com for updates.
