GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) -

Following complaints about a vacant house harboring rescued dogs, the city of Gautier is looking into amending its animal control ordinance.

The dogs were recently reported on the 1800 block of Victoria Drive, and although no one lives in the house, neighbors say someone comes to feed the animals daily.

People who live in the area say the excessive barking and smell coming from the home needs to be resolved.

"It's not fair for animals to be at home by them selves where nobody lives there," said Clinton Creel, Animal Control and Code Enforcement Officer. "Even though they're getting taken care of and watered everyday, there's still issues there. They can get injured, there's no one there to care for them like there is when their living at home with someone on a daily basis."

The proposed ordinance would require all domesticated animals in the city to be kept on a premise where someone lives. Gautier city council will vote on the measure at Tuesday's council meeting.
