BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Santa's elves are hard at work but on the coast, they're disguised as college students.

Students at Tulane University's coast campus at Edgewater Village in Biloxi have been collecting unwrapped gifts for foster children for two weeks. On Friday, they packed up the goodies and delivered them to children in Harrison and Hancock County.

Included in the gifts were baby seats, bikes and even toiletries.

Among the five students and staff loading and delivering was Tony Alves, who is also a Gulfport Police officer and foster parent.

"The school is about philanthropy and to see your school doing something like this, that's the satisfaction you get out of it," said Alves. "And just being able to assist in anyway is where I get the gratification, just being able to help."

Alves says an additional benefit from the drive was that it helped others learn about the foster parenting process.
