PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

About 300 seventh graders spent the morning at IG Levy Park in Pascagoula today, but it wasn't just a day of fun and relaxation. The students from Colmer Middle School were learning how they can help protect the park and its watershed.

The outdoor lesson was part of a $50,000 matching grant received by the City of Pascagoula.

Volunteers from the Pascagoula River Audubon Center, local companies and MGCCC set up stations to explain to the students how pollution, water quality, rain gardens and native plants can affect them and wildlife.

The lessons will hopefully encourage the students to take better care of the park and their environment.

Trang Pham Bui was on hand for the nature lesson this morning. Look for her story tonight on WLOX News and WLOX.com.
