Nearly 10,000 people walked through the doors of the Scarlet Pearl Casino for the first time on Wednesday. As night fell crowds only got bigger.

While it seemed like all the action was inside, outside fireworks lit up the night sky as a way to cap off a historic day for the city of D'Iberville.

“They been showing it on TV, and it looked so pretty and it met all expectations. It's beautiful,” said Jocelyn Wallis of Pass Christian.

While the casino features a buffet and three restaurants, the biggest attraction is obviously gaming. Lines to get player's cards showed just how many people were ready to try their luck at the tables and slots.

“I came out to be average, but I won more,” said Darren Gardner of Moss Point.

Advertisements for the casino reached further than Mississippi, and because of that the grand opening welcomed guests from neighboring states.

“I wanted to be here and see how it looked and it is gorgeous. They have it decorated so beautifully. I really enjoyed myself. The food was good. The gambling was good,” said Betty Johnson of Mobile, Alabama.

First time visitors seemed to be overwhelmed with excitement and very pleased with what the Scarlet Pearl had to offer. Many of them realized the real impact it will have on the entire Gulf Coast.

“I think it's great. I mean it's good for the coast, more jobs and that's a good thing,” said Mack Moore of Pass Christian.

The grand opening was just a glimpse into what's to come for the new casino; the hotel was booked to capacity.
