Group threatens legal action if nativity display not removed from courthouse

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

On Wednesday, a letter was sent to Harrison County officials from the American Humanist Association's Appignani Humanist Legal Center.

The group wants the county to remove a nativity, or crèche, display from inside the Harrison County Courthouse or face a lawsuit.

Harrison County board attorney Tim Holleman says he is working to learn more about the law regarding the matter. Until then, Holleman says the display will stay up until he meets with board supervisors and determines the best course of action.

The group says nativity scenes or any other religious displays show government favoritism toward religion and to Christianity in particular.
