Pearl River Community College has a new men's soccer coach

On Tuesday the Pearl River Board of Trustees approved the hiring of 32-year-old Drew Gallant at it's December meeting.

He replaces Paul Martin, who resigned in September for personal reasons after seven seasons as the Wildcats head coach.

Gallant spent the last five season at men's and women's soccer coach at Southwest Mississippi Community College.

"I am ecstatic, "said Gallant.  "It's great to be back."

Gallant was a 2001 Forrest County AHS graduate and played one year at Spring Hill College in Mobile.  He then played soccer at PRCC for the 2003-04 season where he bagged 27 goals and had 24 assists, second-best in the nation, and was named NJCAA All-America honorable mention.  In 2012, Gallant was named to the PRCC Sports Hall of Fame.

After leaving Pearl River Community College, Gallant signed with William Carey University for two seasons and helped lead the Crusaders to a ranking in the NAIA Top 25 soccer poll.

Gallant graduated from William Carey in 2007 with a BS in social science, and earned a Master's from William Carey in athletic administration.

He was named an assistant soccer coach at Jones County Junior College in 2006 and coached the boys and girls soccer teams at Forrest County AHS for three season and was an assistant football coach.

Gallant knows PRCC has a built a winning tradition having won four consecutive MACJC/Region 23 Tournament state championships.  PRCC posted a 15-3 record this past season.

"I know there is a lot of pressure to continue what the previous coaches have don, "said Gallant.  "But I believe I am up to the challenge."

PRCC women's coach Jack Bryd guided the Wildcats following Martin's departure last season.
