Dozens of people gathered to honor Harrison County Superintendent Henry Arledge at the Great Southern Club in Gulfport Tuesday night.

The 72-year-old has worked for the county for 48 years spending 36 of those years as superintendent. He said his years in education have made for a wonderful ride thanks to his staff. As for what he'll do now, he said he'll start with a his wife's honey-do list.

"My wife says I have a honey-do list that I have to do. I'll probably do a little fishing and hunting and traveling. So I'll be around. Harrison County is my home and that's where I'll be basically," said Arledge.

Arledge started his career as a teacher. His wife is also a teacher. He's recognized for building seven new schools and a spike in enrollment in Harrison County. Roy Gill replaces Arledge as superintendent.
