BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

A tribute to World War II veteran Louis Hengen opened at the Biloxi Public Library this weekend. Hengan retired as a major in the U.S. Army serving in with the field artillery.

The Biloxi native wasn't a collector, but had many articles from his years of service. He received a Bronze Star and was appointed to the War Crimes Tribunal, on which he served after the war at the Dachau Concentration Camp.

The 150-item collection included his uniforms, field gear and other memorabilia collected during his service. The collection was organized by his daughter, Jamie Hengen Swan.

"It makes me feel proud not only for him but for all the other veterans of World War II that are finally getting recognized over all these years. Because there's been a very disservice years ago. But for the past several years with the WWII Museum, the national monument in Washington, they're finally getting their recognition," Swan said.

The current exhibit should be on display for about two weeks. More exhibits courtesy of the Hengen family are being considered.
