LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) -

A former Long Beach police officer admitted to having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl and meeting her for sex while on duty. Patrick Anthony Klis, 45, pleaded guilty to two counts of statutory rape Friday.

According to District Attorney Crosby Parker, the investigation was launched in April of 2014 after the parents of a friend of the victim reported the relationship to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators determined the inappropriate relationship began in October of 2013 when the victim was just 14 years old. Parker said the relationship became sexual after the girl turned 15 years old.

Many times, Klis encouraged the girl to sneak out of her house to meet with him while he was on duty. Klis would take the girl to several places in Long Beach where they would engage in sexual activity.

Parker said forensic investigators found fake Facebook accounts Klis and the victim used to communicate.

“A forensic examination of the Facebook accounts revealed over 9,000 pages of Facebook correspondence that included pictures, some of which were of a sexual nature. In addition, authorities were able to retrieve actual instant messages between Klis and the victim where he actively engaged in sexually explicit communications with her,” said Parker.

Klis is facing up to 60 years in prison.

Full-time Waveland city workers, primarily police officers, who take-home vehicles outside of the city limits could see a change to the city's policy soon. City leaders said the current policy is antiquated and needs to be rewritten into something that would benefit both the officers and the taxpayers.
