BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

There could be some changes coming to Mississippi's oyster season. The Commission on Marine Resources held a special meeting Friday morning to talk about how the season has been going.

Commissioners reported hearing mixed reactions from dredgers about raising this season's sack limit. But they decided, unanimously, to give Department of Marine Resources Executive Director Jamie Miller the authority to change the daily sack limit, change the season's quota, and to change areas that are deemed "over harvested."

Miller said he didn't mind taking responsibility for those tasks. The current quota is 35,000 sacks, but that number could go up or down depending on how the rest of season goes.

Miller said he plans to meet with fishermen and seafood dealers to see how the feel about the season.
