MHP: Man critically injured in I-10 wreck

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Both lanes of Interstate 10 westbound in Jackson County have been reopened after officials were forced to shut down that side of the highway to Life Flight a person involved in serious traffic accident.

Cpl. Benjamin Seibert, spokesman for the Mississippi Highway Patrol, said the wreck happened around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday near mile marker 54.

Seibert said a Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling westbound when it left the roadway and hit a tree. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle, according to Seibert.

Seibert said the driver sustained serious injuries and had to be air lifted to USA Medical Center in Mobile, AL. The male driver is listed in critical condition.

Seibert said the cause of the wreck is under investigation.
