Former PRCC women's basketball coach passes away at age 68

POPLARVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

The PRCC family is mourning the loss of 68-year-old Ed Walley.  He coached the Pearl River Lady Wildcats basketball team for eight seasons, from 2000 until he retired in 2008.  

Walley coached 31-years in the high school ranks at Magee, Sand Hill, Forrest County AHS and Petal.  He won 75 percent of his high school games.

Walley posted a 115-94 record at PRCC, and led the Lady Wildcats to the NJCAA National Tournament at Salina, Kansas in 2003.  His Lady Wildcats closed out that season with a 25-5 record and Walley was named Region 23 Coach of the Year.

He also led the Lady Wildcats into the MACJC State Tournament and the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament in 2004 and 2005.

Walley earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education and a Master's degree in physical education at William Carey College.  He also served in the Mississippi Army National Guard.

Walley is survived by his wife, Pat, two sons, Brady Walley and Lance Walley, five brothers, a sister and one grandson.
