Officials identify victim in Waffle House shooting

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

One day after a Waffle House employee was fatally shot in Biloxi, officials have released the identity of the victim. 

Harrison County Corner Gary Hargrove confirmed that 52-year-old Julie Brightwell died Friday morning of a gunshot wound to the head. 

Police say 45-year-old Johnny Max Mount shot Brightwell following an argument about smoking inside of the restaurant. 

Waffle House officials released the following statement following Brightwell's death:

"This senseless tragedy is a shock for the Waffle House family. Julie was a friend to many as well as a valued member of the Waffle House team. She will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with her family, friends, co-workers and customers."

Mount has been charged with first degree murder, and is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $2 million bond.
