SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Another sign of the season, those familiar bell ringers near store doors. That means it's the Salvation Army's red kettle season.

The organization officially kicked off its annual campaign on Friday.

Bell ringers will be at store fronts across the Coast with hopes of filling their red kettles with donations.

These donations go towards helping the community by funding food pantries, cold weather shelters and helping the homeless here in South Mississippi.

"Every bit of it stays here on the Coast. There are none that leaves the state so we can put it towards our people down here who need it," said Martin Strickland, bell ringer.

To donate, just listen for that signature ring at many stores across South Mississippi.

Out of every dollar raised, 88 cents is donated to causes here in the six coastal counties.
