Officials are investigating an uprising at George County Regional Correctional Facility.
According to the George County Sheriff's Department, a special response team was called in to calm the situation after inmates became rowdy. That team included the GCSD's special response team and members of the Mississippi Highway Patrol's Special Operations Group.
BJ Seibert with MHP said the SOG is a team of troopers that train specifically to handle prison riots, civil unrest, or natural disasters.
Sheriff Dean Howell was on scene through the entire event, and said everything is now under control. Officials say there may be a few minor injuries, but no serious injuries have been reported.
Authorities say they believe the incident was isolated. The cause of the unrest is under investigation.
