GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

No matter what the time of day, Black Friday shoppers show up in waves, ready to cash in on great deals. That was the case in the early morning hours Friday at Premium Outlets in Gulfport.

"I bought some Under Armour stuff for some grandkids and what not. Stuff like that," Rob Heinke said. "They’ve got real nice deals out here today."

Shopping can make you hungry, so you fuel up before heading back out. And many do it as a family, like several folks from Slidell, including Lauren Barragan.

"I love it, it's a tradition. I've done this for years shopping with my Mom and my Grandma and everyone. It's amazing, I love it," Barragan exclaimed.

Store managers, like Sandra Barnett, are loving it too.

"It's been great. All night long, consistent crowds all night. We opened our doors with customers waiting at the front anticipating the sales," Barnett explained.

But everyone's wondering, will the shoppers keep coming? Pam Meinzinger is the Premium Outlets manager.

"If this weekend is any indication, then we're going to have a fabulous shopping season, absolutely great Christmas. The shoppers are eager, they're finding what they're looking for, they're happy," Meinzinger said.

There are many reasons that people come out and shop on Black Friday. It's a family tradition for some. They enjoy the challenge, and they like the excitement. But more than anything else, they like the sales and they demand them, according to Barnett.

"Absolutely. With the economy, everyone is looking for that great sale, so it's very important that you give that to the customers. So on this particular weekend, we do as much as we can."

And that strategy seems to work just fine for shopper T.J. Johnson.

"I’m mainly just shopping for Christmas gifts for my family and that's the most important thing. That's what I'm doing.  And the sales are very important when it comes to savings," Johnson said.

Almost every retail outlet in South Mississippi will be offering extended shopping hours from now until Christmas.
