BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Most of the country likely spent a lot of time in the kitchen for Thanksgiving. But, many people on the coast found an alternative route to that home cooked Thanksgiving meal — in the casinos.

Some families substituted their dining room table for a seat in the IP Casino Resort's Back Bay Buffet. The buffet offered all the typical Thanksgiving fixings like turkey, cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes.

Many of those taking advantage of the food said it was just as good as being back home.

"Well, I'm just happy to be with family and friends," said Bennie Walker.

Walker says she enjoyed the buffet with her family all the way from Tallahassee, Fla. The meal may have even served as a break from the typical holiday traditions.

"I'm happy to not be in the kitchen cooking for the first time in my life," Walker added.

For some families, visiting the casinos on the Coast has become a holiday tradition. Linda Brown and her husband, Dennis, are from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and have made coming to the coast an annual tradition for decades.

"Coming here, it feels more like the holidays," said Linda.

Brown and her husband agree that the staff and regular guests make them feel right at home.

"It makes you feel like you've known them for years. It's a warm feeling," Linda said.

That's the feeling in which staff members like Adrienne Hubbard take pride. Hubbard has worked for three Thanksgivings in a row, but says she doesn't mind.

"I may not be with my family right now, but just to see them smile and enjoy their family, it makes it worth while," said Hubbard.

Which, in turn, makes a holiday spent away from home all the more enjoyable.
