St. Stanislaus has a top notch quarterback in Myles Brennan who's only a junior. He and his Rockachaw teammates tackle Lawrence County on the road 7 p.m. Friday. The winner claims the Class 4A South State title and a trip to the State Championship game in Oxford.
St. Stanislaus head coach Bill Conides is confident but knows the Cougars are a very good football team posting 13 wins and 1 loss.
"They're got a tremendous running back who they give the football a lot to, "stated Conides. "And they're going to find as many ways as possible getting him the ball."
Over the past two seasons, Myles Brennan has passed for 10-thousand-227 yards and 108 touchdowns.
Brennan said, "They're well coached and have good athletes and it's not going to be an easy game. We have to go out there with the right mindset and we can't take a play off. If we go in there playing our game, I think the end result will be in our favor."
Brennan has a host of outstanding receivers. Senior Owen Benz has 33 receptions with 8 touchdowns and leads the Rickshaws with a 24.1 yards per catch average.
Junior tight end Chase Rogers has become the go-to-receiver and he's responded with a team leading 71 catches for 1,330 yards and 17 touchdowns.
He says the Lawrence County defense will present a challenge.
"They've got strong DB's, "stated Rogers. "They plan man coverage, something we like, but it's what we've got to go for."
