HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Preparations are underway for an annual Thanksgiving Day tradition on the coast; the 26th Gulf Coast Public Safety Feed the Needy program.

Volunteers are busy preparing more than 1,800 meals that will be delivered on Thanksgiving. Inside the kitchen at the Harrison County Sheriff's Department work center, they're busy slicing turkey and preparing trays of cornbread and other side dishes.

Those who would like to volunteer Thanksgiving morning, are welcome to pitch in and help.

"Anyone who wants to volunteer, coming up and helping prepare plates, they're welcome to come," said Ernest Thomas with the Harrison County Sheriff's Department. "It's going to be a great time where we come together and do what we enjoy doing, and that's taking care of those that are in need."

The "Feed the Needy" program is based at the Lyman Community Center Thursday morning. Volunteers are encouraged to arrive between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m.
