ST. MARTIN, MS (WLOX) -

The turkey is thawing, and the casseroles are prepared. What about the dessert? You can head to your nearest bakery, where the staff is whipping up all sorts of sweet treats.

There was a frenzy Tuesday to fill orders for Thanksgiving day.

The aroma of the holidays will hit you the moment you walk in the door. Pies fresh out of the oven, caramel-dipped apples and cookies ready to be decorated in festive fall colors.

"To sprinkle cinnamon on a pie or a cake, or a cupcake, it smells good. It makes you feel good," said Tina Bishop.

Bishop owns Cakes By Tina in St. Martin. Her bakery closed on Monday, so her team could start the prep work on all the Thanksgiving orders.

"Peeling apples. Baking cakes. It was kind of chaotic and messy," said Bishop.

Always popular are pies of all types, pecan, sweet potato, pumpkin and apple. Meringue and cream varieties are also in high demand.

Lindsay Skrmetta dropped by to pick up a different dessert, a birthday cake to surprise her step dad. She also shopped for creative confections for her Thanksgiving feast.

"We're concentrating on the turkey and everything that goes with it. So we'll leave the baked goods to the pros," said Skrmetta.

That's where Bishop's crew comes in, trying to fill more than 40 orders by Thanksgiving Eve. She feels blessed to be able to bring some joy to her customers' Thanksgiving table.

"It takes away the stress of them having to cook a meal and the dessert. They can say they baked the pecan pie or the apple pie, or even decorated the cake. That makes me happy to make other people happy," said Bishop.

Cakes By Tina will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. Any baked goods that are left over Wednesday night will be donated to Seashore Mission in Biloxi.
