Resurrection takes aim on Class 1A South State championship and trip to the finals

Top-ranked Resurrection has been flying consistently under the win column...undefeated. Head coach Scott Sisson and his Eagles need a win over Lumberton to advance to the Class 1A State Title game on December 4 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford.

Resurrection goes after a 13th consecutive win and battle  Lumberton for the second time this season.  The Eagles beat Lumberton 25-8 on October 30th.

A big reason for Resurrection's success has been the play of the defense posting 8 shutouts in 12 games. Coach Sisson says despite beating Lumberton a few weeks's a new ballgame Friday night.

"Lumberton gets after you on defense a lot like we do and a lot of people might not realize it, but the score at the beginning of the fourth quarter four or five weeks ago was only 13 to 8."

Senior linebacker Paul Blackwell knows Lumberton is going to present a challenge Friday night, despite Resurrection's win in October.

"It was definitely a tight game and they have a lot of good athletes and they have one of the top rushers in the state,"stated Blackwell.  "So, we can't take them lightly.  We have to go in confident and play our game like we know how to play it."

The Lumberton-Resurrection South State title game will be featured on the Friday Night Football Showdown, along with a live report from the St. Stanislaus at Lawrence County Class 4A South State championship game.
