SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Thanksgiving is just days away, and millions of Americans are preparing to travel. The American Automobile Association estimates that nearly 42 million Americans will hit the road this holiday season.

South Mississippi residents filling up their tanks to head out of town are certainly finding something to be thankful for at the pumps. At several locations here on the Coast, a regular gallon of gas has dropped below $1.70 a gallon.

According to the AAA, the national average is $2.07 a gallon. In Mississippi, the average is $1.87, and that number drops to $1.83 on the Coast.

If you are on the road and want to find the lowest prices, don’t forget, you can use the WLOX app on your smart phone or tablet.

When you open the app, just click on the menu button in the top left corner of the screen. Scroll down on the menu to the gas prices section, and you'll find a complete list of gas stations in Biloxi and Gulfport.

The list has the lowest prices at the top, and also tells you exactly where to find each station.

Full-time Waveland city workers, primarily police officers, who take-home vehicles outside of the city limits could see a change to the city's policy soon. City leaders said the current policy is antiquated and needs to be rewritten into something that would benefit both the officers and the taxpayers.
