Much colder weather arrives Sunday

Monday morning and Tuesday morning will bring near or below freezing temperatures to South MS. Monday morning and Tuesday morning will bring near or below freezing temperatures to South MS.

The coldest air of the season so far is expected to move into South Mississippi on Sunday. This two-day-long cold snap on Sunday and Monday will bring chilly afternoon temperatures in the 50s and very cold overnight temperatures in the lower 30s and upper 20s to parts of our area.

A Freeze Warning is in effect for the entire WLOX viewing area; temperatures will drop to near or below freezing on Sunday night. Make sure you protect your pets & plants.

"On Saturday, a cold front is expected to pass through our region," said WLOX Meteorologist Wesley Williams. "While that front will bring a chance for rain on Saturday, once it passes, we'll dry out. Then, significantly colder air moves in for Sunday. We'll need the winter coats for sure!"

The forecast calls for Sunday morning's lows to be in the 40s with an even colder wind chill due to a strong northerly breeze. Sunday afternoon temperatures will only be as warm as the mid 50s.

Sunday night into Monday morning looks to bring the coldest air of the season so far with near-freezing temperatures expected. "This will be when you want to cover your plants or bring them indoors if you can," Williams said. "And don't forget about Fido! These harsh temperatures can be harmful to your pets if you leave them outdoors."

Monday will be another dry and cold day with afternoon highs in the 50s and overnight lows dropping to near the freezing mark again. We finally begin to warm back up on Tuesday afternoon to the 60s.

The middle of Thanksgiving week appears mostly dry in South Mississippi with rain chances at 20 percent or less. By Thanksgiving day, southerly flow from the Gulf will help us to warm into the lower 70s for highs. So far, it looks like a very pleasant and likely dry holiday forecast for locals.
