BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) -

Another vacant structure in Bay St. Louis went up in flames Friday morning, sending a large gust of smoke into the sky that could be seen miles away.

"We received a call around 0500 this morning for a working fire here at the Coca-Cola Plantation," Bay St. Louis Fire Captain Troy Buck said.

Capt. Buck says after the call, getting to the location of the inferno was the first task.

"The way it's located, it's kind of in a rural portion within the city and it's very difficult to get to. With recent rains we've had lately, the paths and trails were flooded. We were kind of unable to get some trucks down here," Buck added.

Once a crew was able to get on the scene, flames were engulfing the structure.

"Basically we kind of contained it to the structure itself and we're just monitoring the situation now," Buck said.

Fortunately, Capt. Buck says that cool, morning temperatures and winds didn't hinder his team from doing their job. But because of the size of the fire, it will take some time to figure out exactly how it all started.

"The heat is obviously more of a factor to us than the cold weather. Fortunately for us we don't get too many subfreezing temperatures down here. You know, the wind can push a fire and escalate the situation and help the fire grow but that wasn't the case tonight," Buck noted.

At this time it is not clear what started the fire. WLOX News will continue to update the story as information becomes available.
