Youth guard resigns amid allegations he met teen at hotel

A private security guard at the Harrison County Youth Detention Center has been accused meeting a 17-year-old girl at a hotel after arranging the rendezvous through an online ad.

The guard has since resigned from the Mississippi Security Police, the company that runs the detention center for the county.

Eddie Stewart, chief operations officer with Mississippi Security Police, says Biloxi Police alerted him aware of the allegations about two weeks ago. Biloxi Police Chief John Miller says the case is being handled by the Gulf Coast Cyber Crimes Task Force.

The incident allegedly took place during the summer and involved a former resident at the detention center.

"This is an allegation and it did not happen at the detention center or while the guard was on duty. After review and discussion with the employee, we both agreed it was in the best interest of everyone. Our first priority is to safety and security of the residents," Stewart said.

Stewart said the guard work at the detention center for eight years.
