BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Thanks to several fundraising efforts, Hiller Park in Biloxi will get a new playground. Councilwoman Dixie Newman said she has been working on getting the funding for the new playground for two years now.

The playground is going to be special needs accessible, but Newman hopes to also make it wheel chair compliant. She also wants to add swings, wheel chair swings and a zip line.

The $35,000 playground was made possible thanks to Gametime, which provided a $13,000 grant towards the playground. Shaggy's, Walmart and the City of Biloxi also contributed funds.

Harrison County has committed to donating $10,000 after the first of the year.

Anyone interested in contributing towards the new playground can email newman.dixie@gmail.com.

Newman said the playground should arrive in about four to five weeks. She said volunteers will be needed to assemble the playground.

Full-time Waveland city workers, primarily police officers, who take-home vehicles outside of the city limits could see a change to the city's policy soon. City leaders said the current policy is antiquated and needs to be rewritten into something that would benefit both the officers and the taxpayers.
