BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Following much discussion and after hearing from local fishermen, the Commission on Marine Resources adopted some changes to this year's oyster season. The CMR voted to approve a license moratorium for commercial oystering, effective today.

In addition, by a split vote of 3 to 2, the commission raised the daily sack limits to 10 sacks a day for tonging and 15 sacks a day for dredging.

By the same split vote, the CMR also voted to continue the season until 35,000 total sacks of oysters are harvested. Some say it's highly doubtful that figure will be reached, since oyster fishermen harvested just over 20,000 sacks all of last season.
