HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Barbara and Tony Pennington are counting their blessings following a weekend fire which raced through their mobile home in West Harrison County. Both are disabled; she with congestive heart failure and he with two prosthetic legs.

Saturday morning Barbara had turned on the heat, when a few minutes later she smelled smoke. She initially thought it was the smell when you turn on the heat for the first time. But she suddenly heard her husband screaming from the back bedroom and quickly realized it was something much worse.

It took some time for Tony to find and attach his legs, as smoke was getting thicker and the fire was advancing. Thankfully, both made it out alive, although he was treated for smoke inhalation.

Now the Penningtons are sorting through their smoke covered belongings and wondering if they'll be able to restore the fire damaged mobile home to make it livable again.

Steve Phillips will have more on their story and how you can help later today on WLOX News, and WLOX.com
