GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

On Friday, people all over the world were in a panic, especially those who had loved ones in or near Paris.

A Gulfport woman was among those worried. Doris Funchess says her daughter and son-in-law and their family are stationed in Belgium, but visit Paris often where their oldest daughter is in college.

“I looked at it earlier that afternoon and I was very much concerned about it. I called her and it was about three o'clock in the morning. It was disarray everywhere and I was very alarmed,” said Funchess.

Funchess said her daughter had not heard the news yet, and fortunately their daughter in Paris was fine. With them being military, she says they have taken it all in stride.

“Well you know they were trained for this, such a day as this. This is their life. So when something happens they just can't stop and leave. They took an oath to serve,” said Funchess.

As a parent, the anticipation of not knowing what was happening was still agonizing for Funchess.

“Being saved is one thing, but being a parent and having children that's abroad you can't get to them when you need to or you can't see them. It's very much disturbing, but they seem to be calm or they allowing me to think that are. So, I'll just say that they're in God's hands and he watches over all and protects all,” said Funchess.

Funchess says her children and grandchildren are scheduled to return stateside in June of 2016.
