BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Compassion and support for the French is spreading throughout the world, even right here in South Mississippi.

Gulfport officials got together on Saturday with the Harbormaster to light up the tent pavilion at the center of Jones Park to match the colors of the French flag.

If you take a drive by, you can see the blue, white and red lights shining bright.

City officials say they believe it was just simply something good to do in support of France and in honor of those who were killed in Friday's terrorist attacks.

This is not the first time the city has created a light display for special occasions, including holidays.

Officials told WLOX, by far and away, the most popular display was done for National Police Week in May, when the pavilion was bathed in blue lights.

The lights came on for the first time Saturday night, and officials say it will likely be up through the weekend, possibly longer.
