Gulfport Little Theatre moves to Saenger to present Peter Pan

High-flying TONY Award-winning musical Peter Pan has delighted audiences for 61 years and now, a local production is opening at the Saenger Theater in Biloxi.

It's a magical flight complete with fairy dust and an adventure to Never Land. Peter Pan takes the Darling children on a journey across the stars they'll never forget. Maria Turnage, 22, plays the boy who would not grow up. Flying and singing, not surprisingly, is something new for Turnage. But, it's obvious that she loves the challenge.

"It's interesting flying and singing at the same time because you're supposed to be grounded for appropriate vocal technique; so that's new and it's challenging but doable," said Turnage. "We all have to be in sync."

And of course the adventure wouldn't be complete without numerous run-ins with the villainous Captain Hook, played by Joel Herr, and his trusty sidekick Mr. Smee.

"It's always fun to play the bad guy and this is the classic bad guy; you have the red coat, mustache and of course the hook," said Herr.

Anthony Kalberg, who plays the character of Smee added, "Captain Hook is, you know, Captain Hook; until the crocodile comes out and that's where Smee comes out and saves the day and he does that on numerous occasions."

The adventure continues with a night in the forest with Peter's lost boys. Bonnie Hoge directs this cast of more than fifty adults and children. Grab the kids and enjoy the magic and take flight with Peter Pan at the Saenger Theatre in Biloxi. Performances Nov. 13 and 14 at 7 p.m., and Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.

According to a Facebook event page, online prepaid reservations will be accepted for the shows. Click here for ticket information
